An Elvis Presley Lansky Bros. mohair suit. The two-piece black suit is consists of a jacket and flat-front tapered trousers. The jacket has two-button closure and a Lansky Bros. Men’s Shop label. Presley wore this suit extensively in 1961. He was first photographed wearing the suit on February 25, 1961, at a luncheon at the Hotel Claridge in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was presented with a plaque from RCA Records for record sales in excess of 75 million copies. Tennessee Governor Buford Ellington and Memphis Mayor Harry Loeb declared the day “Elvis Presley Day.” Presley again wore this suit on March 8, 1961, in Nashville, Tennessee, when he addressed the Tennessee State Legislature. Later that month, Presley was photographed wearing the suit while in Oahu, Hawaii, for a USS Arizona Memorial benefit concert. In the accompanying letter of authenticity from Sonny West, West explains Presley gave the suit to him when Presley and his companions were first nicknamed the Memphis Mafia and all wore black suits while in Las Vegas. Additionally accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Chris Davidson outlining the events where Presley wore the suit and its historical significance; a copy of Peter Jones' Elvis (Hong Kong: Octopus Books Limited, 1976) and a copy of David English and Pal Granlund's Elvis: Memphis to Nashville '61 (publisher uknown).
