A FIFA Presidential Award presented to Pelé at the FIFA World Player Gala held at the Zurich Opera House in Zurich, Switzerland, on Monday, December 17, 2007. Pelé was given the award in 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of his debut in international football with the Brazil national football team. In addition, he was given the award in recognition of his outstanding service to the game of football, his immense contribution to football's growth in popularity and as a spectacle, and for using his unique status as "the best player the world has ever known" to combat social injustice, poverty and discrimination. The gold tone metal award features a glass sculpture of a football mounted into a flat golden map of the world. The glass ball is mounted within a circular frame that is then mounted to the base of the trophy. Engraved into the circular frame is "FIFA Presidential Award 2007." Engraved into the base of the award is "PELÉ/ Edson Arantes do Nascimento" above an engraved FIFA logo. Engraved around the base of the trophy are the words "FIFA World Player Gala 2007."
