A gold 1958 FIFA World Cup winner's medal presented to Pelé for being part of the 1958 World Cup Champion Brazil national football team. The 1958 FIFA World Cup, the sixth staging of the World Cup, was hosted by Sweden from June 8 to June 29, 1958, and was the first World Cup win for the country of Brazil. The tournament is also notable for marking the debut on the world stage of a then largely unknown 17-year-old Pelé. Pelé made his World Cup debut in 1958, seeing his first action in the tournament against the USSR in the third match of the first round. Against France in the semifinals, Brazil was leading 2–1 at halftime, and then Pelé scored a hat-trick (3 goals), becoming the youngest in World Cup history to do so. On June 29, 1958, Pelé became the youngest player to play in a World Cup final match at 17 years and 249 days. He scored two goals in that final as Brazil beat host nation Sweden 5–2 in the capital of Stockholm, becoming the youngest player to score in a World Cup final as well. The gold medal features an engraving of a winged figure representing Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory, below the letters "F.I.F.A.," the acronym for "
