A hand-carved wood sculpture of a Moai presented to Pelé on his visit to Easter Island. The sculpture features a headdress with a frigate bird carved on the back side. The lower back of the statue has a carved symbol. The Moai statues were created by the Rapa Nui people in Eastern Polynesia between the years 1250 and 1500. Some archaeologists suggest the statues were not only symbols of religious and political authority but to the Rapa Nui, they were actual repositories of sacred spirit. 24 by 9 inches $800-1200 £560-840 Categories: PELÉ
