"Perpetual Calendar & Moon Phase" Patek Philippe & Co. , Geneva, No. 174861. Made circa 1915. Very fine and rare, keyless pocket watch with perpetual calendar, moon phases and lunar calendar in a custommade 18K yellow case. Three-body "bassine", polished, screwed-down bezels, transparent back, setting pins in the band. White enamel with radial Arabic numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months, the date in red concentric with seconds, aperture for the moon phases with lunar calendar at the edge. Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes The case of the this watch was probably replaced relatively early in its life, possibly as a result of the original having been damaged. Many watches of this type were sold in America and it is probable that the original owner thought it too difficult or costly to return the watch to Switzerland for a new case. The screw-down bezels of the present case also attest to its American origin. A watch with identical dial and movement, signed for Tiffany & Co., No. 174688, sold in June 1917 to Tiffany, New York, is illustrated in "Patek Philippe, Geneve", Huber & Banbery, second edition, 1993, p. 205.
