French, 19th century. A French Provincial stained walnut panetiere or bread safe comprising an arched top with fluted cornice surmounting the case with front and side windows framed by baluster turned spindles, the hinged arched door with turned knob and surmounted by a conforming arched cornice, decorated with molded cyma-curved quatrefoil motif with central circular piercing and five-point star opening to upper and lower shelves, each corner with ring-turned columns, the serpentine curved apron molded and decorated with central pierced and carved urn flanked by relief carved olive branches, raised on scroll front legs on small hooves, the back with later iron hooks for hanging on wall. Approximate height 37", width 44.75", depth 20.5". Provenance: Acquired by a Private Collector in Atlanta, Georgia from the Pleasant Peasant Restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.
