To be sold without reserve Notes Cut steel work developed in Russia but became very popular in France during the late 18th and early 19th Century. English jewellers also exported this very popular commodity and by the early 19th century Italy, Prussia, Spain, and Russia were also producing it. Cut steel jewellery was worn the Empress Josephine and was popular even to the point of being copied in silver.
