Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, No. 421657, case No. 266031, Ref. 4030. Made in 1939. Very fine, rectangular curved, 18K yellow gold gentleman's wristwatch with hooded lugs and black dial, and a yellow gold Vacheron Constantin buckle. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Two-body, solid, polished, faceted sides, brushed rounded hooded lugs, rounded crystal. Black with appliedgold baton indexes and Arabic numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial. Yellow gold “bâton” hands. Notes An excellent example of a transitional style in which the lines have become gentler and more undulating, and the rigid geometry of the preceding style has softened. The curved lines are harmoniously superimposed, with a result that is both elegant and innovative. A very similar model was produced by Patek Philippe during the same period, under the Reference 1402. Yet another example of the ways in which the two Genevan watch manufacturers strove to remain at the forefront of both technology and design.
