“Louis XV Style” Vacheron & Constantin, Geneve, No. 302561. Made in 1896. Very fine and rare 18K yellow gold keyless pocket watch with repoussé case made in the Louis XV style. Three-body, the bezel, band and hinged back decorated overall with rococo foliate scrollwork. Hinged glazedgold-rimmed cuvette. Off-white enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute markers and large Arabicfive minute numerals. Gold “Louis XV” hands. 11’’’, bar calibre, frosted gilt, straight line lever escapement, cutbimetallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator.Dial and movement signed.Diam. 31 mm. Notes This style of watch was occasionally made by the best Swiss watchmakers in response to the fashion at the end of the 19th century amongst connoisseurs for the arts of pre-revolutionary France. The present watch is an almost perfect representation of the watches of the late Louis XV period but with the advantages of having a movement made by Vacheron & Constantin.
