"Cephalus & Procris" William Gib Junior, Rotterdam, No. 126, circa 1740, repoussé case signed JNP. Very fine and rare large 22K gold repoussé pair-cased watch with mock pendulum. Outer: gilt metal and shagreen two-body protective outer casewith glazed back. Second: Two-body, repoussé, indistinctlysigned, very finely chased with a scene of Cephalus and Procriswithin a scroll and shell border and with female bust length figuresemblematic of the four seasons, Inner: Two-body, plain polished. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outerarcaded minute ring with five-minute Arabic numerals. Rosediamond-set hands. 40 mm, gilt full plate with pierced fancysteel pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balancewith flat balance spring, double-footed silvered cock withcut half-circle for the mock pendulum, inscribed beneath "UnCoup Suffit", the other half chased with a cupid firing his arrowat a heart on a pedestal, finely pierced and chased backplatefurniture.
