“Purse Watch” C. H. Meylan, Brassus, No. 2620, case No. 61836. Made circa 1930. Fine and elegant, platinum, diamond and ruby-set Art Deco purse watch. Four-body, brushed, rectangular, stepped with canted corners, applied with lines of diamonds and rubies, two larger marquise diamonds and four square-cut diamonds, dedicated back, opening to reveal the sprung and hinged watch case with square inclined bezel. Brushed silvered with applied white gold Breguet numerals, outer minute track. White gold Breguet hands. 22 mm., rhodium plated, "fausses cotes" decoration, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with three adjustments, blued steel Breguet balance-spring, index regulator. Charles Henry Meylan was an eminent watchmaker, well known both in the United States and in Switzerland. In 1894, he was awarded the "Premier prix de réglage de l'Observatoire de Genève".
