“Two-Day Marine Chronometer” Ulysse Nardin, Locle, Suisse, No. 8540. Made in 1954. Fine mahogany two-day marine chronometer with power reserve indicator. Three-body, with brass handles, all the edges protected by heavy brass inlay, the glazed upper section with hinged lid. Brass bowl and gimballed suspension. Silvered with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down scale. Black "Spade" hands. 83 mm, gilt brass full plate with baluster pillars secured by screws, 13 jewels, fusee with chain and Harrison maintaining power, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement, cut bimetallic balance with cylindrical weights and two mean time adjusting nuts, free-sprung antimagnetic polished helical balance spring with terminal curves, diamond endstone. Dial, movement and box signed. Dim: Bowl 124 mm., box 19 x 19 x 19 cm. Notes It is interesting to note that both these Ulysse Nardin Marine chronometers bear service stickers within the box from the Kishi Keiki Seisakusho Company in Kobe, Japan.
