“Paillon Rosette” Ilbery, London, No. 7002. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1830. Very fine gold, enamel and half-pearl set pocket watch with center seconds and duplex escapement. Three-body, half-pearl set bezel, pendant and bow, hinged and sprung back cover set with a panel of royal blue guilloche enamel with multicoloured gold paillon geometric decoration of roses and foliage, half-pearl set borders. Gilt metal cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals and outer minutes / seconds track, Arabic quarter hour numerals. “Ovoid” hands. 49 mm. (22’’’), engraved gilt, Chinese caliber, standing barrel, duplex escapement, polished steel five-arm flat-rim balance, blued steel flat balance spring, diamond endstone, index regulator. Movement signed. Cuvette with faux English hallmarks. Diam. 59 mm. Notes The very fine blue enamel and multicolored paillon back, dating from the end of the 18th century, was applied later.
