“Flowers and Foliage” Johan Cristof Nidermair, Salzburg. Made circa 1640. Very fine and rare, astronomic, silver pre-balance spring small coach watch with moon phases, age and aspect of the moon, alarm and single hand. Two-body, “bassine”, deep body pierced and engraved with naturalistic flowers and foliage, polished bezel, pendant with loose ring. Silver and gilt brass, the silver chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, half-hour markers and inner quarter hour track, inner rotating silver alarm disc engraved with a diagram of the aspects of the moon, the outer edge with Arabic numerals for the alarm, applied with two fixed steel fleur-de-lys pointers for the age of the moon and alarm. Single steel hand. 51 mm., gilt brass full-plate, tapered baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance without spring, pierced balance cock engraved with flower scrolls and with small foot secured by a screw, steel worm and wheel regulation with foliate pierced feet, silver regulation disc with Arabic numerals. Alarm train with foliate pierced spring barrel, striking with an anchor-shaped hammer on a bell in the back of the case. Movement signed. Diam. 65 mm. Notes Joh.
