“Egyptian Dial” Rolex Oyster Perpetual, Officially Certified Chronometer, Ref. 6062. Production of this reference started in 1950. Very fine and very rare, astronomic, tonneau-shaped, self-winding, water-resistant, 18K yellow gold gentleman’s wristwatch with triple date, moon phases and an 18K yellow gold Jubilé bracelet. Two-body, solid, polished and brushed, screwed down case back (key slightly damaged) and crown. Matte silver with applied yellow gold pyramidal and dart indexes with tritium dots, subsidiary seconds, outer graduation for the days of the month in blue Arabic numerals, apertures for the days of the week, the months and the moon phases. Tritium coated yellow gold “dauphine” hands. Notes Ref. 6062. Produced from 1949 to 1953, with 350 examples in yellow gold, 50 examples in pink gold and very few in stainless steel. This Ref. features a great variety of indexes; with the rarest being the diamond indexes and then the star indexes. Very few examples have black dials, and only two are known with black dial and diamond indexes. Watches with black dials always had the moon featured on a black enamel sky. Ref. 6062 was produced in 18K yellow and pink gold as well as stainless steel; Ref. 8171 was produced in 14K and 18K pink and yellow gold, as well as stainless steel.
