“Wacth with 8 Complications” Golay-Leresche et Fils, Golay Fils & Stahl, Successeurs, Geneva, 2 rue de la Paix, Paris, No. 23530. Made circa 1910. Very fine and exceptionally rare, small, 18K yellow gold, astronomical, hunting-cased, minute-repeating keyless pocket watch with perpetual calendar, chronograph and phases and age of the moon. Four-body, massive, "bassine", polished, sprung and hinged front cover, hinged gold cuvette. White enamel, Breguet numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions and Arabic five seconds numerals, sunk subsidiary four year dial divided into four sectors, each with month indications, sunk subsidiary date and day of the week dials, subsidiary seconds with age of the moon, aperture for moon phases, setting levers in the bezel. Blued steel “spade” hands. Notes Golay Fils & Stahl, successors to Golay-Leresc Founded in 1837, the Golay-Leresche company won a Silver Medal at the 1878 Paris Universal Exhibition. In 1857, the firm was run by the founder's son. In the early 20th century, the company was sold to Stahl, hence the name Golay Fils & Stahl. The firm had a worldwide clientele, including the King of Romania and the Maharajah of Barodah. In 1962, Jacques Wolfgang, father of current owner Jesse Wolfgang, bought the company. As a jeweler, he brought a new style to the house's creations.
