Very fine and very rare, 20K gold, champlevé and painted on enamel watch with a gold, gilt metal and painted on enamel châtelaine. Two-body, Louis XV, the back finely decorated with painted on enamel and champlevé flowers and foliage on a radiating chased ground, the bezel decorated en suite. Chatelaine decorated en suite and with tassel and key attachments. 36 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with pentagonal baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance with flat balance spring, micrometric potence adjustment, pierced and chased continental balance cock with steel endplate and faceted endstone, silvered regulation dial. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 46 mm. Notes Julien Le Roy (1686 - 1759) One of the greatest French horologists of the time, he was apprenticed in 1699 to the Parisian maker Le Bon, became master in 1713, Juré in 1731 and Horloger du Roi in 1739. He was a founding member of the Société des Arts and raised the status of French horology to the standard where it could challenge the supremacy of England.
