“Flowers and Foliage” François Baronneau a Paris. Made circa 1640. Very fine and rare, silver pre balance-spring small coach watch with single hand and alarm. Two-body, “bassine”, bezel with engraved ring to secure the crystal, polished back, the band finely pierced and engraved with flowers and foliage, turned and flat pendant with loose ring bow. Gilt brass chapter ring with radial Roman numerals and fleur-de-lys half hour markers, inner silver alarm disc with radial Arabic numerals, fixed gilt brass “tulip” pointer. Gilt brass “tulip” hand. 50 mm., gilt brass full-plate, baluster pillars, fusee with gut line, short four-wheel train, verge escapement, steel two-arm balance wheel without spring, pierced and foliate engraved balance cock with irregular small foot, secured by a pin, blued steel ratchet wheel and click set-up. Alarm train with steel wheels and foliate pierced gilt brass spring barrel, sounding on a bell mounted in the back of the case. Movement signed. Diam. 68 mm. Notes François Baronneau He is recorded as working in Paris, between 1620 and 1649, established in Rue Saint-Jacques la Boucherie. He died sometime after 1653.
