Very fine, small and rare, platinum and yellow gold Montre Simple Excentrique, pendant watch with ruby cylinder escapement, Breguet short gold chain and ratchet key. Four-body, "forme quatre baguettes", by Tavernier, engine-turned back and borders and platinum band, gold detachable cuvette. Double-link chain and double-ended ratchet key. Silver, eccentric, champlevé radial Roman numerals on brushed chapter ring, outer dot minute divisions, engine-turned center and outer border. Gold Breguet hands. 31 mm., gilt brass, hanging barrel, ruby cylinder escapement, gold three-arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, jeweled balance and escape wheel, pare-chute on the top balance wheel pivot, blued steel “anchor” regulator. Dial and cuvette signed. Diam. 35 mm. Notes Provenance: Thomas Robinson, 3rd Baron Grantham and subsequently 2nd Earl de Grey of Wrest (1781–1859). Lord Grantham a “nobleman of great wealth and fine temper”, he was a collector, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and, towards the end of his life, President of the Society of Architects.
