Ref. 1680 "Red Submariner" Rolex, “Oyster, Perpetual Date, Submariner, 200m/660ft, Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified”, Ref. 1680, Case no. 3816372. Made in 1974. Very fine and rare, center-seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch with date and a stainless steel Oyster "Fliplock" bracelet. Three-body, polished and brushed, screweddown case back and crown, graduated bi-directional revolving brown bezel for the decompression times, "Triplock" winding-crown protected by the "crown guard", crystal with "cyclops" lens. Black with luminous round, triangular and bâton indexes, aperture for the date, “Submariner” written in red. Luminous steel "skeleton" hands. Cal. 1570, rhodium-plated, "oeil-deperdrix" decoration, 26 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance-spring, Microstella regulating screws, hack mechanism. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 40 mm. Thickness: 14 mm. Notes This watch is an excellent example of a reference 1680. The dial of the watch not only shows perfect patination with a uniform chance of colour it also is the rarest type with red writing and no minute/ seconds divisions.
