Two-body, “demi-bassine”, the case back very finely painted with a portrait of composer Hector Berlioz. White with painted radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds dial. Black oxidized gold “bâton” hands. Cal. 17-170, stamped with the Geneva Quality Hallmark, rhodium-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 18 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, “swan-neck” micrometer regulator. Dial, case and movement signed, the enamel signed by the artist. Diam. 47 mm. Notes Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) A highly original and important French romantic composer, who had a remarkable gift for orchestration. In 1830 Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique was first performed in Paris. This work, with its recurring basic theme, was noteworthy for its loose form and highly emotional and personal style. That same year Berlioz won the coveted Prix de Rome. During the next decade in Paris he wrote the symphonies Harold in Italy and Romeo and Juliet, the opera Benvenuto Cellini, and a requiem.
