Ref. 6062, Yellow Gold “Black Diamond Dial” Rolex, “Oyster Perpetual, Officially Certified Chronometer”, Ref. 6062. Case No. 942536. Made in 1953. Extremely fine and extremely rare, astronomic, antimagnetic, tonneau-shaped, self-winding, water-resistant, 18K yellow gold gentleman’s wristwatch with black diamond-set dial, triple date, moon phases and a Rolex 18K yellow gold tile-link bracelet with deployant clasp. Two-body, solid, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown. Black with applied yellow gold dart and diamond set indexes, outer gold painted minute track, subsidiary seconds, gold painted outermost graduation for the days of the month in Arabic numerals, apertures for the days of the week, the months and the black enamel moon phases. Yellow gold "Dauphine" hands. Notes Reference 6062 was produced from 1949 to 1953 in 350 examples in 18K yellow gold, 50 examples in 18K pink gold and very few in stainless steel. Though production ceased in 1953, the watch in its yellow gold form remained in the Rolex catalogue until 1960. This watch is one of only two examples known of this reference with black dial and diamond-set indexes. This example with the original gold bracelet was sold by Antiquorum in 1997.
