Ref. 2917. Stainless Steel “Antimagnetic” Rolex, “Antimagnetic”, Ref. 2917. Case No. 031703. Made in 1937. Very fine and very rare, stainless steel, Art Deco, gentleman’s wristwatch with stepped hooded lugs, oval two-button chronograph, 30-minute register, telemeter, tachometer and a stainless steel Rolex buckle. Three-body, polished and brushed, stepped bezel, hooded fan-shaped lugs. Brushed silvered with applied white gold baton indexes and Arabic half-hour numerals, outer fifths of a second graduation with Arabic five-second numerals, tachometer and red telemeter graduations, subsidiary seconds and 30-minute register dials. White gold “baton” hands. 13’’’, rhodium plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 33 mm. Thickness 12 mm. Notes Ref. 2917. This reference was made in very few examples in 1937 and only in stainless steel. It is apparent that only a very small number of this reference can exist because the case numbers of other watches are very close to the known examples of this reference and the consecutive references. To illustrate this, the present lot is numbered 031703, the reference 2918 (Lot 109) is numbered 031728 and the reference 2919 (Lot 108) is numbered 031753. This watch is illustrated in “Rolex, Collecting Wristwatches”, by Osvaldo Patrizzi, 2001 Edition, pp. 398 - 399.
