“Ref. 4816” Rolex, "Officially Certified, Chronometer", Ref. 4816. Case No. 845666. Made in 1951. Very fine and rare, 18K yellow gold gentleman's wristwatch with a gold plated Rolex buckle. Two-body, solid, polished, elongated overhanging lugs, snap-on back. Silver ”Honeycomb” with applied faceted yellow gold bâton indexes, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds. Yellow gold “Dauphine” hands. Notes Reference 4816 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1947 to 1953 and was available in 18K pink or yellow gold only. This model was referred to in period advertising as having ”an extremely slim case with pleasing curved lines, luxury dial with honeycomb decoration and gold appliques”.
