Jefferys & Jones, London, No. 2014, circa 1785. Very fine and rare 18K gold, enamel and diamond-set watch with matching chatelaine in original Morocco fitted box. Two-body, back centered with a medallion in a diamond-set frame, translucent dark blue enamel on engine-turned ground, white enamel border in a repeated heart pattern, bezels in translucent dark blue and opaque white enamel in repeated gold pattern, chatelaine decorated en suite with two major links matching the back of the case, joined by oval enamel on gold links and pearl-set chains with a seal, key and two tassels, gilt spoon. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute track, winding aperture at 6 o’clock. Gold “heart” hands. 36 mm.,frosted gilt full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, singlefooted cock. Signed on the movement. Diam. 47 mm., length with chatelaine 170 mm. To be sold without reserve Notes Jefferys & Jones (ca. 1775 - ca. 1800) were well-known makers of richly decorated watches. Examples of their work are in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the City of London Museum, and others.
