Ref. 6590, So-Called “Bombay” Rolex, “Oyster Perpetual, Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified”, Ref. 6590. Case No. 196706. Made in 1956. Fine and rare, center-seconds, selfwinding, water-resistant, 18K pink gold gentleman’s wristwatch with an 18K gold Rolex buckle. Three-body, solid, polished, screweddown case back and crown, shaped lugs. Two-tone silvered with applied pink gold faceted baton indexes, luminous dots, outer minute/seconds divisions. Luminous gold “dauphine” hands. Cal. 1030 rhodium plated, “oeil-de-perdrix” decoration, 25 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, shock-absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 33 mm. Thickness 12 mm. Notes Another example of a “Bombay”, the reference 6590 was offered with either leather or expanding bracelets. The “Bombay” series of watches started with references 5916 and 5918 at the end of the 1940s and carried on until the late 1970s, finishing with references 1010 and 1011.
