Attributed to Henry King Taylor (British/Italian, 1799-1869), "Marine Painting with Promontory", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Marine painting depicting a number of sailboats or schooners on a tumultuous and choppy sea with two standing male figures flanking a small shelter with flag on a wooden promontory outcrop. Dynamic marine painting with figures typical of the artist's work and similar to his depictions of Mount Orgueil, Gorey, Jersey handled by Christie's, London in years past. Painting has been relined. Work accompanied with original canvas support with pencil inscription that reads "Making the Harbour with a fine breeze H.K. Taylor". Framed 19.75" x 28". Unframed 16" x 24". Provenance: Mr. James M. Cowan, Aurora, Illinois whereby by descent to his relative Dr. Kirven Weekley.
