Breguet, No. 858, sold to Monsieur Malzoff, a Russian Officer, on 8 Germinal, An 10 (March 28, 1802), for 648 Francs. Very fine and rare, silver and gold, “montre de souscription” pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement. Accompanied by a Breguet certificate. Three-body, “forme collier”, No. 4252, by Amy Gros (master mark), engine- turned band, gold bezels and bow, the engine-turned back cover with a central polished gold disc. Silver, polished chapter ring with Breguet numerals, outer five-minute, quarter and half-hour divisions, engine-turned center, secured by a screw. Blued steel “souscription” hand. 54 mm., frosted gilt, souscription caliber, central barrel winding from the front or back, overhanging ruby cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance, pare-chute on the top pivot, flat blued steel balance spring, bimetallic temperature compensation curb on the index regulator. Movement signed. Diam. 62 mm. Notes The silver dial of the present watch would appear to have been exchanged for the original enamel dial shortly after the manufacture of the watch.
