“The Lovers Surprised” Ph(ilippe) Terrot & Fazy, Genève, No. 7834. Made circa 1780. Fine, 18K gold and painted on enamel pocket watch. Two-body, "Louis XVI", the back centered by oval painted on enamel medallion with a scene of a couple surprised amongst the grass, vari-colored gold swag border, chased floral gold bezel. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions with Arabic quarter-hour numerals, winding aperture between 3 and 4 o’clock. Gold “Louis XVI” hands. 35 mm, hinged, gilt brass, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, continental balance cock, polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. Movement signed. Diam. 44 mm. To be sold without reserve Notes Terrot Ph. & Fazy Worked in Geneva between 1767 and 1780, known for vari-colored gold cases decorated with enamel portraits.
