“Rolesium Sporting Princess, Green Dial” Rolex, retailed by Stern, No. 75908, case No. 1925, Ref. 1564. Made in the 1930s. Fine and very unusual, Art Deco Rolesium and reptile-skin purse watch with “observatory quality” movement. Three-body, spring-loaded, all covered in green reptile skin with metal band in the front, dust protective nickel/aluminum cap, patented sliding mechanism. Green lacquer with white bâton indexes and Arabic 12, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds. White baton hands. Rectangular, 7 1/2’’’ Extra Prima Observatory Quality, rhodium-plated, 15 jewels, lateral lever escapement, monometallic balance, 6 adjustments, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Dim. 25 x 41 mm. Notes This watch was designed by Hans Wilsdorf himself, and registered in Switzerland on December 26, 1929. Wilsdorf patented very few inventions. Others were either bought or invented by his employees, of which this is one of the three. It employs a simple and reliable closing mechanism and the Prince dial and movement.
