Fine and very rare, tonneau-shaped, water-resistant, stainless steel gentleman’s wristwatch with round button chronograph, registers, tachometer, steel bezel graduated to 300UPH and stainless steel Jubilee bracelet. Accompanied by a servicing receipt. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, polished inclined bezel graduated to 300UPH. Black and silver with applied steel baton indexes and luminous dots, silver subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12- hour and 30- minute registers, outer minutes and fifths of a second divisions. Luminous steel “baton” hands. Cal. 13’’’, 722-1, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance with microstella screws, shock absorber, self-compensating freesprung Breguet balance spring. This reference, along with the Explorer, Ref. 6610, is one of the earliest examples of a Rolex retailed by Cartier and signed by Cartier on the dial. Ref. 6238 Is known by collectors as the “Pre-Daytona” and was first published in the Rolex catalogue in 1964.
