“The Butterfly” Attributed to Tardy & Fils, Genève. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1890. Fine and elegant, 18K gold, enamel, ruby and rose-cut diamond-set lady’s keyless brooch in the form of a butterfly with concealed watch. In the form of a butterfly, the wings overlaid with translucent green, blue and yellow enamel and set with rubies and rose-cut diamonds, the central body hinged to reveal the dial, the winding crown formed from the butterfly’s antenna. White enamel with radial blue Arabic numerals, red 12, outer gold dot minute indexes. Gold “spade” hands. 7’’’, frosted gilt, bar caliber, 15 jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Dim. 52 x 47 mm.
