“The Handmaidens” Breguet a Paris, Swiss. Made circa 1795. Fine, quarter-repeating, gold and painted on enamel pocket watch. Two-body, “Directoire”, pierced and twist-engraved band, the back with a finely painted on enamel scene of two handmaidens with a ewer in a landscape standing and kneeling before an altar decorated with gold paillons, opalescent ground over engineturning, gold paillon and arrow border, the bezel decorated with blue and white enamel stripes and paillons. White enamel, outer minute track, Arabic quarter-hour numerals. Gold “leaf” hands. 36 mm., frosted gilt, full plate, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, continental balance cock with steel endplate, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 48 mm.
