“Cupid’s Arrow” Berthoud A Paris. Made circa 1765. Fine, 20K gold and painted on enamel quarter-repeating à toc pocket watch. To be sold without reserve Two-body, Louis XV, by “PT/L”, the back centered by a painted on enamel medallion depicting Cupid shooting his love arrow, a sailing ship in the background against a sunset, framed by white enamel dots simulating pearls, translucent plum colored enamel border over engine-turning, bezels in champlevé foliate enamel terminated with a row of white enamel dots simulating pearls. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers, winding aperture at 2 o’clock. Gold “Louis XV” hands. 30 mm, frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, micrometric potence adjustment, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock, repeating train with two-arm fly governor, repeating on gold blocks fixed to the case activated by depressing the pendant. Signed on dial and movement, case punched with casemaker’s mark. Diam. 38 mm. Property of a Swiss Collector
