“Agate and Gold” Isaac Roberts, London, No. 1235. Made circa 1750. Fine and rare, 22K gold, agate-mounted pair-cased pocket watch. Outer: two-body, chased repousse rococo gold, back and bezel set with panels of translucent striated agate over foiled metal. Inner: two-body, “bassine”, polished, shuttered winding aperture. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost Arabic five minute numerals. Blued steel "Beetle and Poker" hands. 32 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved single-footed cock, silver regulation dial. Movement signed. Diam. 46 mm. Notes Isaac Roberts (d. 1774) Is recorded as working in London, Compton St., in 1762.
