“Perpetual Calendar – Duplex Escapement” Swiss. Made circa 1865. Fine, very early, astronomic, silver and gold pocket watch with perpetual calendar and duplex escapement. Four-body, “bassine”, polished, gold hinge, the back cover with engraved monogram. Gilt cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials for the months, days of the week, date in red concentric with seconds, aperture at 12 for the moon phases. Blued steel “Breguet” hands. 44 mm., 20’’’, frosted gilt, bar caliber, 14 jewels, duplex escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Diam. 52 mm. Notes The present watch is the early type of perpetual calendar with the distinctive early-type dial layout. Watches of this type were exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exhibition.
