“At the Spinning Wheel” Geneva. Made for the Chinese market circa 1790. Very fine and elegant gold and painted on enamel, pearl-set center-seconds pocket watch. Two-body, “Directoire”, split-pearl-set bezel, the back finely painted with an oval scene of a courting couple seated in an Arcadian landscape, within a paillon frame on a translucent blue guilloché enamel ground, split-pearl-set border. Hinged frosted gilt metal cuvette. White enamel, upright Arabic numerals, outer minute/seconds divisions. Gold “ovoid” hands. 43 mm., engraved gilt brass, standing barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, index regulator. Diam. 51 mm.
