“Geneva Oignon” (Lazare) Jaquier a Geneve. Made circa 1700. Very fine, silver-gilt, single-hand oignon pocket watch with central winding. Two-body, polished, square hinge, loose ring pendant. White enamel, bold radial Roman numerals, inner quarter hour ring. Single blued-steel hand with counterpoise. 45 mm, hinged gilt brass full plate with divided Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring with rack and pinion regulator, gilt brass Louis XIV balance cock pierced and engraved with birds and foliage. Movement signed. Diam. 57 mm. Property of a Swiss Collector Notes Lazare Jaquier The son of André, he is recorded in Colonges-sous-Ecluse, in the Valais Canton. He was a Master horologist who became “habitant” in 1692. He is known for his “oignon” watches in the French style.
