“Romantic Lady” Swiss, “Chronophone”, No. 16881. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1910. Fine, quarter-repeating, silver-gilt, painted on enamel and pearl-set hunting cased keyless pocket watch. Four-body, “bassine et filets”, both covers decorated with translucent Imperial blue enamel over engine-turning, the front painted with a portrait of a lady with flowers in her hair, the back with a young couple on a grassy bank, pearl-set bezels. Hinged silver-gilt cuvette. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds. Gold “Louis XV” hands. 44 mm., 19.5’’’, frosted gilt, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance with self–compensating flat balance spring, repeating on gongs activated by a pusher in the band.
