"Detent Chronometer" Favre-Jacot, Georges & Cie. , Le Locle. No. 5608. Made circa 1900. Fine and rare, 14K pink gold, hunting-cased, keyless pocket chronometer with pivoted detent escapement. Four-body, "bassine et filet", polished band, engine-turned covers with polished borders. Hinged gold cuvette and glazed gold-rimmed cover to view the movement. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gold "Louis XV" hands. Notes Favre-Jacot, Georges & Cie The company was founded by Georges Favre-Bulle in 1865 after his apprenticeship in LaSagne. The original plant was a small workshop in the Les Billodes section of Le Locle, thought to be where Breguet had his workshop between 1793-96. In 1896 the firm won a medal at the Geneva Exhibition. It later became Zenith, but traded as Favre-Jacot throughout the late 19th century.
