So-called "Rolex Panerai" Rolex, "Marina Militare", Ref. 6152/1. Made for the Italian Navy Commandos in the 1950s. Very fine and extremely rare, large, cushion-shaped, water-resistant, stainless steel military diver's wristwatch with a Panerai buckle. Signed Rolex, three-body, polished, screwed-down case back and crown, case back engraved: "S.M.Z. M.M. 094," straight lugs. Notes Ref. 6152/1 Rolex produced these watches for Panerai in Florence to their specification, for use by the Italian military and other Italian specialist dive units. The term “Luminor” on the dial refers to the luminous substance used to ensure that the dial was legible under even the lowest levels of light. In the Rolex spare parts catalogue the three Rolex for Panerai references are listed as follows: - Ref. 6152 - 16’’’, - Ref. 6152/1 - 16’’’ and - Ref. 6154 - 16’’’.
