“Art Deco Onyx & Diamonds” Swiss, attributed to Verger Freres. Made circa 1925. Very fine and rare, Art Deco, platinum, black onyx and diamond-set lapel watch. Two-body, platinum, front engraved with a mask and foliage, en-graved band, back set with panels of black onyx outlined by lines of rose-cut diamonds, in the center a large rectangular diamond, onyx and diamond-set articulated suspension, black ribbon with diamond-set slide and diamond and onyx-set terminal, winding crown set with a cabochon onyx. Matte gilt with Arabic numerals, outer minute track. Blued steel “moderne” hands. 6’’’, navette-shaped, frosted gilt, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dim. 31 x 18 mm. Excluding fittings. Notes This watch is a particularly high quality example of the Art Deco “Jazz” style of the mid-1920s. The onyx panels are cut and shaped especially for this watch and the diamonds are of an unusually large size for such a piece.
