“Calendar, Moon Phase, Minute Repeater Chronomètre” Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, “Chronomètre”, No. 349860, case No. 214811. Made in 1910. Very fine and very rare, astronomical, 18K yellow gold, hunting-cased, keyless, minuterepeating pocket chronometer with triple date calendar and moon phase. Four-body, massive, "bassine", polished, the front cover with an engraved dedication. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months and the date with concentric seconds, moon phase aperture. Gold "spade" hands. Cal. R.A. 18’’’, frosted gilt, 32 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, swan-neck micrometer regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Case, cuvette and movement signed. Diam. 53 mm. Property of an American Gentleman Notes The more complicated a timepiece is the more difficult it is to adjust, as the additional wheelwork affects the timepiece’s functioning – because of the amount of energy required-but often only sporadically. It is therefore very rare to find a complicated timepiece which was submitted to Observatory control.
