“Beautiful Lady” Ch. t Moricand a Genève, No. 35032. Made circa 1780. Fine, 20K gold, painted on enamel and rose-cut diamond-set, pair-cased pocket watch. Outer: Two body, “bassine”, the bezels matted and chased with continuous leaf decoration, the back set with a painted on enamel portrait of a lady with roses in her hair, rose-cut diamond-set border and pierced surround over a royal blue translucent enamel over engine-turned ground. Inner: two-body, “bassine” polished. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with five-minute Arabic numerals. Diamondset pierced hands. 31 mm, hinged, gilt brass full plate with hexagonal baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, single-footed cock, faceted red endstone, silver regulation disc. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 41 mm. Property of an Swiss collector Notes Christian Moricand (1715-1791) was a watchmaker who from 1752 to 1755 was associated with his brother Benjamin and François Colladon.
