“Patent Lever Watch” Jules Jürgensen, Copenhagen, made in Switzerland, No. 9806. Sold on August 7, 1865. Very fine and rare, 18K yellow gold hunting-cased pocket watch. Accompanied by the original fitted box, certificate and key. Five-body, "bassine et filets", heavy, polished bezel, reeded band, engine-turned case back, hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring, sunk subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel "Breguet" hands. Cal.19’’’, nickelplated, bridge caliber, 19 jewels, escape wheel and pallet fork jewels with gold caps, straight line counterpoised long lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws. Blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator with main divisions set on the center bridge. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 50 mm. Property of an Italian Collector Notes Jürgensen’s patent lever escapement features a long fork that allows the use of a large balance wheel, allowing a more constant rate of oscillation and therefore greater precision.
