"Le Normandie" Léon Hatot, (ATO). Made circa 1935. Very fine and rare, Art Deco, frosted lilac-colored pressed glass desk clock. Pressed lilac-colored frosted glass, the base representing waves, front view of a masted ship above with sun-ray background, the back of the base impressed “Cie Gle Transatlantique, French Line”. Integral to the case, frosted and translucent glass chapter ring with radial letters spelling “Normandie” for the numerals, dot minute markers. Steel "épée" hands. 45 mm., nickel, 4 jewels, lateral lever escapement, monometallic balance, flat balance spring, index regulator. Case signed. Dim. 15 x 13 cm. Notes Le Normandie The French ocean liner “Le Normandie” made her maiden voyage on May 29, 1935. At the time, she was the largest and fastest ship in the world, and she maintains the distinction of being the most powerful steam turbo-electric propelled passenger ship ever built. The luxurious interiors of Normandie were marvels of Art Déco and the Streamline Moderne style. The present clock is a model that was sold on board the “Normandie”. Its glass case, in the manner of Lalique, is thought to have been made by Sabino.
