“Coin Watch” Swiss, No. 25/80. Made for Garrard (London) in a limited edition of 80 pieces to commemorate the 80th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in 1980. Very fine, 18K gold, extra thin, keyless watch concealed in a gold coin. Three-body, the hinged watch within the coin opening by a push piece concealed in the band, the front cover with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth and inscribed “To Celebrate the 80th Year of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, 1980”, the back with Queen Elizabeth’s coat of arms and the date “4th August 1980”. Brushed gold with radial Roman numerals. Black "baton" hands. 20 mm., rhodium-plated, “fausses cotes” decoration, 18 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted in 5 positions, self-compensating flat balance spring, shock absorber. Notes Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1900-2002) Born in 1900, the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore, she married the Prince Albert, Duke of York in 1923. They had two daughters, Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Princess Margaret Rose (1930-2002). Her husband became King George VI in 1937 after the abdication of King Edward VIII and Elizabeth became Queen Consort. After the death of King George VI in 1952, the Queen dowager took the title of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and lived until 2002, when she died, aged 101, at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
