“Member of the Royal House of Romania” P. Reynaud & Co., Geneve, No. 2870. Made for a member of the Royal House of Romania, circa 1870. Very fine and rare, 18K gold and painted on enamel, hunting-cased, keyless pocket watch. Five-body, “bassine et filet”, polished, reeded band, the front cover decorated with the finely painted coat of arms and the motto “Quae Nocent Docent”, the back cover with blue champleve enamel mirror-image “K” beneath a Royal crown. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel “fleur-de-lys” and “pierced lozenge” hands. 40 mm., 18’’’, frosted gilt, bar caliber, 17 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, cuvette and movement signed. Diam. 47 mm. Notes P. Reynaud & Co.. is recorded as having worked at Grand Quai, 166, Geneva in 1857, then Place du Port, 2, in 1866.
