“Charming Lady” Attributed to Maurice Ditisheim, La Chaux-de-Fonds, No. 481233. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1910. Fine, 14K gold and painted on enamel, pearl-set hunting-cased keyless minute-repeating pocket watch with chronograph. Four-body, “bassine et filets”, both covers in translucent red enamel over “spinning” engine-turning, the front cover painted with a portrait of a young lady in a blue dress, the back with roses on an opalescent ground, pearlset bezels. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost chronograph track divided into fifths with radial Arabic five seconds numerals, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel “Spade” hands. 40 mm (18’’’), frosted gilt, straight line lever escapement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, steel chronograph work mounted on the back plate, repeating on gongs activated by a slide in the band. Cuvette signed in Chinese characters, case numbered. Diam. 47 mm.
