“Singing Bird” Attributed to Griesbaum, Germany. Made circa 1950 in the style of the late 19th Century. Fine, repoussé sterling silver and gilt singing bird box. Rectangular, “bombé” form with repoussé relief decoration of scrolls, flowers, cherubs and birds, the hinged bird cover cast with two cherubs with a lyre, raised on bun feet. Singing bird movement: going barrel, rectangular belows, Griesbaum whistle, the bird rotating and moving wings, tail and beak, controlled by a rack and two cams mounted beneath the barrel, gilt brass grille engraved with foliage, activated by a pull-stop in the side of the case. Dim. 104 x 75 x 63 mm.
